Caring for a leather dog collar
Caring for a leather dog collar
Having chosen a new leather collar for your dog now you need to know how to look after it. Caring for a leather dog collar is easy if you follow the tips below.
- Gently clean the collar with a soft cloth and apply a leather balm such as Renapur to protect and feed the leather. This can be done about once a month if needed.
- If the collar is muddy wipe well with a damp cloth. Allow the leather to dry naturally, never dry your collar on a radiator or direct heat source.
- Always remove your dog’s collar if they are playing rough, scratching excessively or swimming. It is particularly important to keep your dog’s leather collar out of salt water as this is most damaging for leather.
- Avoid over exposure to the sun as this can cause fading and discolouration to the leather.
Maintaining your leather dog collar
To keep your leather collar in tip top condition nourish it with a leather conditioner. Apply a small amount to a dry cloth or sponge and rub it into the leather. Using a clean dry cloth polish until the conditioner has been absorbed.
With a little care your collar can last for many years.
